Approach
Editorial Cover

Description
This project involved creating an editorial cover based on a recent research paper on replicating trunk development in vitro through notochord signalling. The concept visualizes the notochord as a central “conductor” guiding trunk development and patterning, shown through two renderings.

The final composition aims to capture the complex interplay of biological factors involved, helping to make the research more accessible and easier to understand.

Research and Ideation

After choosing the topic, I spent time reviewing the literature and gathering references to build a strong scientific foundation. I went through several rounds of ideation, refining ideas to improve both clarity and accuracy. Along the way, I got feedback from peers and content experts to check assumptions and make sure the visuals aligned with current research. This iterative process helped shape illustrations that communicate complex ideas clearly while staying grounded in the science.

Production

Once the design was finalized, I built the assets in Maya, focusing on accuracy and detail while staying true to the science. The 3D renders were then brought into Photoshop and Illustrator to composite the final piece and integrate text with the visuals. This workflow gave me control over lighting, texture, and composition, resulting in a polished illustration that communicates complex information in a clear, engaging way.
